Yes. So ~10% of the channel will be Compaq approved dealers
and the other 90% will be Compaq disapproved dealers.
This means the disapproved dealers will be allowed to unload their
excess inventory of Compaq computers. It also means that Compaq
does not have to take back the excess product. No wonder they are trying to stuff the channel!

>><CPQ vowed loyalty to the channel>

So why make public statements to that effect?
I think the answer is that they had to lie to avoid a early revolt by their
channel.

>I suspect in cut-throat business environment these days the only

Why can't we all just get along....( Rodney King)

Applause is probably too strong a response. I approve but I find difficult to applaud. They have known about these problems for along time.

P.S: I do not mind a little fluff if it is well done.

mohan, you are wasting your time with jimbo...
I want dell to go up and cpq too...
but, sooner or later in this biz your stk crashes 50% or more..
it's happened to dell in the past and all the pc vendors including cpq.
the radical dellites..and I really mean the radical dellites not most of them.....
are just asking for allot of smashing "when and I do mean when " dell crahses....
talking trash on the field really just means sooner or later the other team beats your 60 to zip and does a couple of blind side hits too.
It's best in the pc game to win with dignity instead of trash talking your opponent with their stk goes down. Jim's comments about cpq and other pc makers are more from some kind of grudge instead of constructive suggesting of improvements
jimbo is just one of the radicals and not representative with all of them.

It's best just not to even discuss it on this thread since it's too disruptive to invesing and the other members of the dell thread..

Mohan,

IMVHO, one of CPQ's biggest problems is, and will continue to be, executing a standardized quality control through the diverse channel outlets. I believe this may well be a major factor in their decision to cut back the number of 'approved' channels. However, if 'anybody' can sell CPQ, they are back to square 1.
