"a list of places he recommends to read about Ukraine, Crimea, etc." I'd recommend reading in the bathroom, and then playing the role of Russia in Total War; beware of Sweden and Germany up north. Or, what I like to do is play US, kick out the Brits, take over England (and the entire Western Hemisphere), and, eventually, conquer Russia. There are some names people might recognize. Lots of enemies around, and you have a few trade routes and a single port. Sweden, Dagestan and Georgia are hostile to you, you have a war with Crimean Khanate Ottoman Empire and only two allies Denmark and Republic of Poland. Fortunately, Russia is able to cope with most of the opponents, using weak units. To conquer Sweden and Ottoman Empire advanced military infrastructure will be needed. 1. Collect some troops (train some Cossacks in Kiev) and conquer Crimean Khanate. Do it quickly, before the Muslims will strengthen their army. 2. At the same time, start to build army in south area of the country to defend yourself against Georgia and Dagestan. When you will defeat Crimea and you will find that you can attack the next enemy, invade Chechnya-Dagestan and Georgia. 3. Move to the south. Defeat Armenia, Mesopotamia and Persia by taking their capital. It would be useful to conquer the whole countries. Remember, you need regions.... guides.gamepressure.com
