I wasn't thinking of the sociological aspects as much as the pragmatic issues. So, as I said, we will never change our "culture" but we sure should be able to take the economic strengths that are working in a different culture and apply them here. ............As an isolated example; we have in place a food stamp program with some awful incentives and results. Can we look at other cultures and learn to make it better? Sure! That doesn't change who we are or our culture - it is just common sense. Doing so wouldn't necessarily make us an ..."objective sociological laboratory" it seems to me it would just make us smart. ............As a two party system, that use to be one of our strengths as the two parties compromised to find that which worked well. That of course is fractured now.
