We need to do nothing. If Europe wants to strengthen their presence, they can do it. It's their hemisphere, not ours.

I doubt seriously that Russia is willing to tackle NATO. And many of those former Soviet states are NATO members. There was a time when the USSR could have confronted NATO and had a chance. Not a great one, but a chance. Russia is not the USSR. If for no other reason, Russia is integrated into and dependent on global trade. A lot of that dries up if Putin starts causing a lot of trouble.

Don't get me wrong, Putin would love to recreate the Soviet Union. But that just isn't possible any more.
