"Had ancient Greek writings been preserved we would be a thousand years ahead of where we are today." Probably an exaggeration. This is technology. But philosophically, we would have had so much more to say. And as humans we would have been so much richer. The Christians sacked libraries time and time again. The way they deny on this thread is just so pathetic. But where are the books!? For instance, out of 123 plays written by Sophocles--only 7 survive. The rest were destroyed. We lost similar treasures from myriad other great thinkers both in Science and the Arts. Another tragedy of religion in order to keep their superstitions from being exposed and in order to remain in power. By comparison, consider the value that Shakespeare has added to our planet and remember that Sophocles wrote more than 3 times as many plays!! Aristotle wrote over 200 books. Only 31 have been preserved from the shallow minds who feared all knowledge. But were they right to fear it? Yes, indeed! Look at what it has done to their power structure. In a century the church will be all but dead. But we will never have the benefit of those myriad exceptional minds whose books were destroyed by dim-witted TROLLS. The loss is poignant to all people with feeling. For the deniers it is just something to sneer at. Our resident TROLL, woodcutter, potter, and turd could care less about all that knowledge we lost. All they do is eat, breathe, and piss--and this gives them contentment of a sub-human sort...
