Not that I was asked but I can tell you why that hell hole you asked about is still there.

Those living in the "hell hole" are propagating like rabbits.

The 1% 's where you live have 0 to 1 kid.

The hell hole is big and is happy to suck in anybody into its vortex / your neighborhood small and exclusive and entry is permitted only through a portal which spits out anyone who wants to leave but makes it very hard for others to enter.

So be happy when you pay high taxes to subsidize the poor ---- because you are paying to keep them confined to the hell hole (down there on the other side of the tracks).

Great stuff! You should print it out and send it to the White House and your elected officials in state and local office.

It is on topic because we have to figure out what is happening, why and how to get ahead of it even if it makes us sick. I'm convinced much of the "great things" being done in the Silicon Valley really don't add much to productivity other than replace business models fat with profits with scale where those who write the code and sell the devices and services can profit from the money that once went to paying armies of people to do low skill jobs. Tesla and Google will probably replace the whole shipping industry with robot driven trucks that only stop for fresh batteries or H2 fill-ups for their fuel cells... Think of the unemployment when truckers, bus drivers, etc. all lose jobs just like the tellers and super market cashiers....

Anyway, I worked with and helped train a young, Vietnamese refugee and couldn't have been more impressed with his character and hard work despite all the odds against him in the early 1980s. Remember back then they were referred to as the "G-word" and nobody in the news lost jobs for saying it because they were shooting at us less than 10 years prior. Despite the language barrier and social "distrust" if not outright hatred, they worked their asses off, learned the language and in a single generation became valuable contributing members of society while those stuck in the ghetto hindered by BS social programs that robbed their self respect, fill up our jails. Sure, there are pockets where not all did well... We have gang issues with all races, but so many excelled it was impressive be it in engineering, taking over the nail salon business here or the shrimp boat industry in the Gulf.

Gee Bob, you are turning this into a biography thread.

I have no intention explaining my misspent youth. But I always did land on my feet and was able to move on and upward.

Well Bob, since you feel that the government is the problem here is one solution.

Lake Huron has over 30,000 islands. Many are just a few acres in size and habitable, and for sale.

You could hop on your boat somewhere near the Wisconsin Apostle islands, cross Lake Superior, and head due east up the St Mary's River and buy one of those islands. You would be free of all government interference, because no Michigan or Canadian police force has got the time or energy to visit those islands.

You could be Daniel Boone, Davey Crockett, and William Beaumont are in one.

After all, time spent fishing is never time wasted.
