steve:

I bought some WSTL today as well. I've taken one round trip from 14 to 22 and back with a tiny position, but I think it may be time to step up and get serious with this bird. Still just sniping so far, however. PAIR is also on my xDSL "farm team".

Good luck,

Charlie

Steve,

You had some really good points about the RBOCs.I think the "SBC style" stonewalling to prolong their windfall is the main ulterior motive. I remember an SBC advertisement 6mos ago and they said they where spending xteen billion on their network and they had not raised rates in the last 13 years. Wow! They must think the consumers are ignorant or they really are soooo self absorbed that they don't get it.

I am supposed to thank them for gouging me for the last 13 years??? Meanwhile due to Divestiture in Long distance the rates have tumbled for the last 13 years. I really can not see that the RBOC's will gain as much from getting into long distance as the IXC's will gain by getting into local service.

The biggest pressure for the RBOC's will come from cable/MSFT but particularly from the new Triad MCI, Worldcomm, Brooks. I will be soo extremely disappointed if they do not take the lead in marketing and deployment of xDSL services. As the biggest facilities based threat to the RBOC's, I would really like to know more about what they have planned???

For what it is worth I would like to put out two outstanding value suggestions that are telecom equipment companies. TKLC and AFCI.

TKLC makes STP's for local number portability (LNP) along with LNP testing equipment. They have excellent fundamentals, an estimated 60+ million backlog of orders for this quarter (ending December), and they just announced that GTEINS (GTE Intelligent Network Services) has chosen the EAGLE STP (Signal Transfer Point) platform to deploy Local Number Portability (LNP) in their nationwide network.

AFCI Provides Digital Loop Carrier (DLC) equipment. They have partnered with Aware for ADSL and with Adtran for HDSL. I counted "ANSI - Compliant" DMT three time in the press release!

AFCI has also just announced an agreement to provide HDSL systems to cable and Wireless in Panama. This by itself is not huge, but it could lead to the rest of the Cable and Wireless World Group.

Both of these companies have been beaten down far more than they deserved. Both are real bargains right now and have shown that they rebound as quickly and strongly as they are carried down.

Ray, If there is any interest and you can find some time I would be very interested in your TA analysis of either one or both of these.

Regards,

Milkman
