there are again signs that the US mortgage market is heating up and housing prices are quickly accelerating above the general rate of inflation as such there will be a return to commodities IMHO

More so if the varangrians in E. Europe will continue their imperialistic quests and ancient history was mentioned in the latest speech before the world to hear, why would it be any different today?

Interesting read of their cruelty like that of Saint Olga en.wikipedia.org and her son Sviatoslav or grandson Vlodimir who murdered his brothers

"The Drevlians sent their best men who governed their land. Upon their arrival, she offered them a warm welcome and an invitation to clean up after their long journey in a bathhouse. After they entered, she locked the doors and set fire to the building, burning them alive. ----- and later ----- She invited them to a funeral feast so she could mourn over her husband's grave, where her servants waited on them. After the Drevlians were drunk, Olga's soldiers killed over 5,000 of them. She returned to Kiev and prepared an army to attack the survivors."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sviatoslav_I_of_Kiev

A visitor to Atil wrote soon after Sviatoslav's campaign: "The Rus' attacked, and no grape or raisin remained, not a leaf on a branch.

and the present solution is as ancient

"Cut off and surrounded, Sviatoslav came to terms with John and agreed to abandon the Balkans, renounce his claims to the southern Crimea, and return west of the Dnieper River." ---- "According to the Slavic chronicle, Sveneld attempted to warn Sviatoslav to avoid the Dnieper rapids, but the prince slighted his wise advice and was ambushed and slain by the Pechenegs when he tried to cross the cataracts near Khortitsa early in 972."

" A war broke out between his legitimate sons, Oleg and Yaropolk, in 976, at the conclusion of which Oleg was killed. In 977. Vladimir fled Novgorod to escape Oleg's fate and went to Scandinavia, where he raised an army of Varangians and returned in 980. Yaropolk was killed, and Vladimir became the sole ruler of Kievan Rus'".

What we call today Russia contains well over 200 ethnic groups most of which are peaceful warm and loving people, which over time where conquered by the Rurik Varangian Dynasty (starting with Riurik was a Varangian chieftain who gained control of Ladoga in 862,) and what I write should be taken in this context.
