IOM Products and Marketing:

I would appreciate reaction/comments to the following observatios re: products, marketing, p.o.p, etc.

1. To me "refurbished" means returned, repaired and resold. Although this can offer value to a certain type of consumer, I don't think that it sends a very positive message about the quality of a company's products.

2. Having gone through a number of computer and electronics stores recently I have noticed that inventories are generally good, but the displays/p.o.p presentation looks weak and tired. I think that it is time to start a fresh "campaign to address this. Also I was not aware of any major distinction between Zip and Zip+ packaging, did I miss something? I think there should be a strong packaging statement here.

3. IOM needs to get $89 to $99 new Zip product advertised and on the shelf. These are critical price points and will move a lot of product now. Before there are more competing products or technologies the market should be flooded with Zips at these levels to increase the installed base. These buyers will purchase disks, trade-up on drives and become brand oriented consumers.

4. IMO Syquest print (newspapers and magazines) and radio advertising
is at least as good, in terms of eye and ear appeal, as IOM. They need to do work here. This is where the less informed consumer is attracted to a product.
