That stretch of highway takes up an immense amount of important real estate right through the edge of downtown. One can see how it is a problem.

I don't blame anyone for considering doing something different. It has been there since the early 60s and has served its purpose but the landscape has changed. When it was built it was on the outskirts; now it is likely limiting redevelopment of East Dallas, which are run-down and need development to prevent melding into South Dallas slums.


Yes, a number of cities are taking out freeways that no longer make sense.
