Free preschool will help but still without a strong family and local community backbone to support and nurture these kids early on they have little chance of making the right choices as they mature.... I would say growing up with a single mom in a rough hood the odds are definitely stacked against him. Unfortunately the many kids who want to excel at school are maligned while the hoops star is not only the campus hero but has all kind of support from the coaching staff and others with a financial stake to keep him on the right path.
