To all, addendum: It just so happens that my youngest daughter manages a temp service that has its office right across the street from UMSI's facilities. When I asked her (a few minutes ago) if she knew anything about her neighbors she said she had never heard of the company; but, that she would call them to see if they might be interested in hiring any temporary employees. She just called me back and informed me that she had talked to their receptionist. She said she asked the woman if the company had ever used temps, and wondered if they might be interested in doing so. She then proceeded to ask if she could make an appointment to discuss the advantages of using temporary help. The receptionist stated that they had never used temps and that they were not interested in discussing the merits of same, especially right now. When my daughter asked if they might consider it in the future, the receptionist became quite rude and literally hung-up on her. Contrary to what I had just seen with my own eyes, my daughter got the impression that something might be wrong there; i.e.: that they might be getting ready to move, or possibly being taken over by someone else. Again, I saw no indication of any readying for such an event. I can appreciate how the company might be downsizing its work force, at least until they resolve their current Taiwanese problems (which, they adequately explained they were in the process of doing). Also, the majority of employees that I saw were purely white collar (i.e., programmers and such). There were only a few blue collar types (i.e., assemblers, etc.). No moving vans or trucks though, and no boxing up of equipment. GeneM
