The Supreme Court has split 5 to 4 in favor of increasing the amount of money allowed to "influence" (corrupt) our government, 5 conservatives vs 4 liberals and I do not see a lot of Dems cheering those decisions.

It is a systemic problem.

Complacency is a huge enabler when it comes to institutionalized corruption. Slavery in the southern US was enabled by this. You had a huge and successful economy which only benefitted a few wealthy plantation owners, so why didn’t the multitudes of poor white people in the south band with slaves and rise up against this atrocity?

They didn’t for several reasons. They believed the system worked for them. They were often share croppers who had homes and farms or other endeavors financed by the corrupt system. They identified with the plantation owners believing, unrealistically, they too could rise to such prominence given some twist in their own fate. They believed in it so much, they were willing to fight and die for a nation of confederate states.

In modern times complacency with the corrupt political system allows every manner of hell to be funded and manifest in the world, yet you know and I know the populous has become impotent with regards to changing that even to a slight degree. If I saw some commitment to change, even some level of concern, I wouldn’t make such a statement with confidence. I do see a smattering of hand wringing but no movement with any conviction. After all it is the tit we all suck from. So, we are a complacent society bound to support every manner of corruption, even at the highest level. In the worst case scenario, hey, Obama gonna take care'o me. C’est la vie
