The above quote is from the article.........I think it very much describes what's happened in SF and not the argument for NIMBYSMs the article tries to make. For a year, in the early 90s, I lived in SF. SF residents are terrified of losing the beauty that defines that city. And the same fears are starting to crop up here in Seattle. For the first time since WW II, cities, esp the ones that are most attractive, are starting to take their rightful place in this country Only in the US were the suburbs revered and the cities hated. That's changing now. The causes of the "housing crisis" here in Northern California are numerous. Some are uniquely Californian, but most of them are similar to those that are having an effect in other real estate markets. Yes, and the uniquely SF causes are very unique..........SF is a city built on hills, 'water locked' on three sides. Its built on some of the most beautiful topography of the metro area and experiences pretty much a year round spring like climate. What's not to love? The solution would be simple if there were any Republicans in local government (namely, vote the bums out), but there aren't. Instead, this is a fundamental hypocrisy among California Democrats, that they enjoy the money even as they rail against the unequal distribution thereof. lol. Why would that be a solution? Rs have shown us repeatedly they don't know how to govern. Having said that, CA dems are better but not by much.
