I think you misunderstand me.

You assume the welfare kids can thrive in pre-sschool and I assume it's open question as to this. Why, because a lot of them are coming from a culture which doesn't value this and whose single parent is not educated herself. This statement applies across races.

As to black kids in pre-school they have additional problems. Did you know black pre-shcoolers are kicked out of preschool at about three times the rate of whites and other ethnic groups because of behavior problems? That tells us something. It may just a cultural clash, but whatever the reason it means they are not in there learning. So I am saying help create a culture that values education first--like your Klan does---and then the learning will follow as it will be a value that will be "internalized". One way to do this is to promote policies that promote 2 parent families and to keep benefits for welfare mothers who marry the same up to certain income limits.

i have no preconception about Blacks as a race. It's a cross section of values there IMHO. You've got the young men in Detroit who beat up on the "perceived" white driver who hit a black child with his vehicle (the black child jaywalked into a busy street and the young men are now charged with attempted murder) and then you've got the church lady who went out and made them stop beating him up and the black community that's raised money for his hospital bill) So there's no pigeon holing values by race.

In any event what is striking about this problem of the success of welfare students is the silence of the political parties about the issue. It's what we need to have national conversation about and neither party wants to talk about this--at least as far as I know. So until we can a political conversation going about it we'll continue to have to live with the unacceptable status quo.
