That is not as egotistical as it sounds. They simply had the opportunity to read the great thinkers that came before them and wrote the constitution around those ideas. The average man did not have that advantage, but could have competed if he had. A lot of the previous great thinkers were the ancient Greeks. To think the ancient Greeks had more to say than anyone until the 19th century. Who was smarter in the entire world at the time, than Franklin and Jefferson, Adams and others. We got the best and the brightest in the world. And they shepherded our fledgling country for decades. Why we made it and others didn't e.g. South America. We need to get our thinkers back in charge. Today we have foreign policy by Louie Gohmert, Michelle Bachman, Sarah Palin and Lindsey Graham :>).
