It started with LBJ's Great Society and war in Vietnam

No, it started a lot earlier then that. Capital city syndrome is pretty standard historically all across the board. London, Paris, Rome etc. They all grow cause they suck resources into themselves. DC probably had a jump in growth during every war since the Mexican war and maybe the War of 1812. Certainly from the Civil War, and WW 1. The Great Depression was another big jump. My father went to DC to work and told me years later how it was hopping relative to the rest of the country at that time. Then of course during WW 2 another big jump.

True but

The "but" makes me suspect you think we here only became interested in the administrative state when Obama was inaugurated and will go back to being raving fans of it when a republican takes over.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

This liberty-sucking leviathan was a multi-generation project of both parties. And you know who is working for it because they call thenselves "moderates".

I remember as a kid going to DC in the 1970's was a far different place than today.

Concur!

But I don't know what a kid would have learned back then. When were you born?

DC was different in the 70s because Jane Fonda and John Kerry were in their prime.
I think Woodstock '69 gave them their start.

Even so, as a Nam Vet, I still like Country Joe and the Fish's opening song to Woodstock.
But, I think Jane Fonda and John Kerry are traitors.
