Hi Blasher....your complaint about too much government spending is often repeated by politicians of all stripes.

As I understand it government employment for all federal agencies has been trending downward for the past five years or so. "Doing more with less".

The big driver of Federal spending is the military. The military consumes a little over half the federal budget.

Most of the military spending benefits the southern states that have so many bases and military contractors. With a Republican house I do not see where any significant cutbacks are possible.

I'll give you a real life example....the Army decided five years back that they did not need any more Tanks. (steel coffins as the Iraqi's called them".....but tanks are only made in Ohio....and the Army is still getting at least two tanks a week, thanks to the Republican house members from Ohio. (Ohio Democrats also helped the Ohio Republicans keep the tank assembly lines running)

Eisenhower complained about the "military industrial complex"....well its outlived most politicians.

The other part of the equation is this.....instead of saying lets cut Federal spending.....identify the programs that you want to reduced or eliminated.

I have read about all kind of programs people running for office want to eliminate. Start with the IRS, OSHA, NASA, EPA Bureau of land Management and any other agency with a target on its back.

We can debate a solution for a long time ...what should be done.....but I think there is too much money demanding the status quo.

The last disturbing trend I have read about is that public opinion on any given matter has no effect on congressional action or inaction.

The government is the enemy...(until you need a friend)
