Anyone telling you what house you *must* buy? That it *must* have 3 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, and be 2000 square feet, even if you are a single person with a cat and what you really want is a 1 bedroom condo? No? Well that, in effect, is what Obamacare is doing for health insurance.

Totally disagree.

I don't believe that you can't differentiate between performance standards, meaning that if you have some gear, it must work, and options, which are features you may or may not want to include. You are smarter than that.

There are 1000's of minimum standards for cars, from airbags to padded dash to ..

They may be thousands of regulations but they are not all alike in kind. Different kinds have different impacts. That extant airbags have to inflate in x seconds is not the same as a requirement to include airbags.
