There are a lot of expenses paid locally I do not approve of. For example, I believe public libraries should be shut down because they've outlived their usefulness, yet my home town just built a new one for some unknown reason. You'll never get rid of libraries, no matter how useless they are.

Huh, libraries are anything but useless and in fact their usage, in general, is going up not down. They provide computers and printers to those that can't afford them, and that is a big subset of the population. You frankly can't function very well in today's world without access to a computer. Some are even putting in 3D printers... if each library unlocks the potential in a handfull of people they are worth the money.
