offtopic Bosco, good notebooks ALWAYS cost twice what good desktops cost. Pls. tell me where I can get 8GB of fast Harddisk in a notebook ? <G> I can only give You this hint here. Get a custom-built box from FIC (brand LEO) with a non-Intel chipset dubbed "VIA-VP-3". This one is not only blazingly fast, it's also superior to Intel's current Pentium offering the TX-based chipset. Reason: Intel wants to "reallocate" the Pentium to the low end, so the TX has a limitation built-in: 64MB max. cachable size. The VIA-VP3 has 256MB limit, and I've heard it could be stretched to 512MB with a 2MB cache. It also supports AGP on the Pentium ! The mainboard You should demand is called "PT-2012 from FIC/LEO" and it's an ATX design. All those nice features: OnNow, Softoff, LDCM, APCI etc. Get Yourself a fancy case (something that looks like Alessi's <g>). It has AGP connector (which is something Intel doesn't like, too). Grafic Card I would recommend a Canopus with the RIVA/128 AGP design in case You want to play games too or if You planned to use Windows95. Else a Permedia-2 based design (like the Diamond Fire GL1000pro with AGP) if You are doing serious OpenGL based work or if You planned to use Windows NT. For now, You could settle for a Cyrix 6x86MX (even the 166grade speed should be overclockable to 200grade), as a cheap interim solution until the AMD-K6+ will be out in Q2/98. Big harddiscs, like my new one (Maxtor 8GB eIDE) now comes below $450 and it should have UltraDMA for IDE speed. If You do not want to do it Yourself, look for a LEO brand and ask for that mainboard, the graficcard and the CPU. They should do BTO (build to order). Believe me, this component mix should NOT obsolete too soon (2 years). best wishes CROSSY
