"they'd paint their roof white for a very low price instead of putting black photovoltaics on the roof at huge expense."

I put on the white roof in '87; put the panels on the ground.

PV's are actually cheaper today than a lot of carpeting some people put in their homes!

Per Sq Yard... Or meter if you prefer.

That's how far prices have dropped.

For my house putting up PV's on the roof actually kept the house much cooler in the summertime. The attic of the house is much cooler and since it is so well insulated I don't need air conditioning. The hottest I've ever seen my house in the summertime was 75 degrees F inside.

Having a white roof would reflect light back out without causing greenhouse effect. Having solar panels causes a LOT of heating, right there at the surface and then again by CO2 as some of the radiated energy is captured by CO2.

Why would I want to do that??

It's "free" energy waiting to be absorbed and put to use.

All of my hot water is generated by solar up there too. Almost 90% efficient. Much more so than the PV's.

No fossil fuels required. Very, very reliable.
