It cant be overstated how much you and your coworkers are not the standard Android user.
I'm certainly in the upper percentile or three of how much I customize and how much of the power I harness. But anyone using Android v4.x (the vast majority now) has access to most or all of these features and those who don't customize much still customize a little. My mother is my go-to field test. She's older and not particularly tech-savvy, so if she does something without my help, I know it's easy for the masses. Even my mom has her most used apps and a widget on her home screen. That's hardcore customization for her ilk!

Keep in mind that Android is still relatively new to the scene. Few people had exposure to 4-5 years ago, but it has become very mainstream in the past year or so (this is one reason market share matters). It's now all over the place and extremely intuitive. I can't imagine someone saying "Android? Now what's that doohickey?" And to whatever degree the uninitiated exist, they're a dwindling breed.

However... the USER should have the option.

The user should have the ability to make the choice. This is a prime usabilty fact.

Another example, Apple hides a lot of system files in OSX. That's fine, but they make it too hard to turn that function off. It should be in the system prefs not a command line.
