if I scan for the title with Bing it doesn't work, i.e. WSJ shows me only part of a paragraph.
But with Google it does.

and I thought all searches are the same :)

Actually I think that it is beneficial to published to allow users to read single articles.

Put everything behind a paywall just make your product non-useful to 99% of the internet users.

This is similar to a Freemium model where you allow free users a limited (or awkward) access and charge more for a premium experience.

Plus there is search ad revenue that can be monetized and Google probably shares some of that with the WSJ.
