While half of scientists self-identify as "liberal" and the other half as "conservative" or "independent", the vast majority of engineers are conservative.

That ought to give you some pause as you consider why that might be.

A lot of those "scientists" are reliant on government for their incomes and are not trained to understand the relationship of cost to what they do; most engineers receive at least some training on the concept of cost vs. benefit, and of course, do actual work for a living rather than receive a government stipend.

So, it isn't really shocking that people who rely on government for a living think government is the solution to all problems. Not dissing scientists in any way, of course.

Also, it is worth noting that persons self-identifying as "scientists" may be simple biology, chemistry, or physics, or perhaps a medical technologist. You really impute too much based on the scant information in the poll.

I live in a city that pays more than 50% of it's school budget for the administration of its schools. So, the teachers (the people actually doing the job) get less than half.

My city is considered very progressive. I consider it way too far to the left.

Unions pretty much run my city.

Unions pretty much run the U.S. government too. How many times do you see people fired in the government?

They not only don't get fired, they also get BONUSES even though their salaries are already about 2.5X the median income of the entire country.

People that support that sort of stuff are way too liberal in my book.
