Energy Weekly: The Crude Is Out There
Weakness In Physical Markets Belie Benchmark Strength. Libyan Turmoil Has Given OPEC
Back Some Swagger, For Now
10 June 2014 ¦ 13 pages ir.citi.com

OPEC’s Wednesday meeting in Vienna should be uneventful with no change
expected to the cartel’s 30-m b/d output target. Global supply disruptions are still
running high at ~3.5-m b/d, and both Brent and WTI indicate tight markets.
Speculation that the market may need significantly more oil from Saudi Arabia is
a complete turnaround from the last few meetings where all the talk was of a
looming glut. Libya has been the decisive factor in the turnaround, and with little
prospect of Libyan exports getting back over 0.5-m b/d anytime soon, OPEC has
regained some of its swagger.
