My take away is simply that there is higher order thinking and we must be aware of it and strive for it because it is always a more sophisticated approach to problem solving. In a nutshell, learning to think abstractly taking into consideration as many variables as possible contrasted against a larger reality. That post was aimed at the pubs who read this thread. I think what the internet has taught us is the degree to which people are simplistic and just wrong e.g the Clive Bundy, Sarah Palin or Louie Gohmert mentality in the Republican party. The truth is those folks can barely think. If I had to make just one criticism of the Republican party it would be that they do not appreciate higher order thinking. They do not seem to understand it even exists. If you look at my bio you will see the H.L.Mencken quote, which I have never changed: "for every complex problem there is a simple answer and it is usually wrong." And the pubs do this over and over and over and as a consequence we are last among all the western democracies in terms of social evolution and sophistication. The pubs keep trying to pull us back to a simpler time and do not realize it was a simplistic time e.g gay bashing, personhood crap, voter suppression, war on women and minorities, etc. This Gitmo outrage is another example. It is a tempest in a teapot. Compare those five guys being released from Gitmo and sent back to join a billion people in Asia minor who hate us just as much, against the drug cartels in our back yard, as danger goes. In fact last year or so, the Texas Republican party actually had a political platform against "higher order thinking". Nixon vetoed free pre school because the pubs did not want their kids being taught stuff contrary to what their parents were teaching them e.g. age of the earth or evolution.
