STMicroelectronics is ready to offer an assortment of key components such as sensors, low-power MCUs and wireless networking devices for the booming market, accord to company executive vice president Francois Guibert. While companies like Qualcomm and MediaTek are pushing sales of their reference designs for IoT and wearable devices, STMicroelectronics has been focusing on deploying a comprehensive line of peripheral products, with which it can develop integrated modules for applications in the telemetry, home network gateway, renewable energy and hybrid vehicle sectors, among others, Guibert said. In Taiwan, STMicroelectronics has begun cooperating with local clients in the home network gateway sector, utilizing current residential power lines as wireless communication channels . STMicroelectronics is also involved in the Taipei U-bike bicycle rental system, one of the best cases for the demonstration of a smart city. For the China market, STMicroelectronics is currently focusing on a number of segments, including smart meters, street lighting and hybrid vehicles, to expand its presence in the market. With regard to smart meters, STMicroelectronics is developing products that meet the specification requirements set up by the central and local governments for penetration into China's smart meter market.
