I had read this article and wondered the same thing. I read it a second time and it seemed they were looking to aquire a product not a company. Maybe a company and a product mean the same thing.
If my memory serves me correctly Novell competes with Softquad,Symantic , Microsoft.
An aquisition of Softquad would make Novell a stronger competitor in publishing. It would probably be good for both companies.

Softquad seems to be forming an alliance with alot of good companies.
We will have to wait to see what the new year and 4Q earnings bring.

How familiar with company suits are you? What usually happens and how long do they take? Years?

I was reading this about AT&T and it may explain about why alliances. It says an aquisition is difficult to do where an alliance is similar to an aquisition, and easier to do.
Esecurities, what do you think?
