Religious groups, however, have chosen to fast for centuries. Where I see some religious relevance is this. Following the decline of paganism and multiple deities different groups of people scattered across the globe prayed to a single God and asked for inspiration. They've asked of God how they should live and how they should treat each other. Ideas begin to surface among individuals, things are tried out, things are discarded, group concensus builds, and over long periods of time a religion, a belief system, evolves. Somehow, each one of these disparate group has reached the conclusion that fasting is a good thing and pleasing to God. Since few would choose to fast for no reason, esp. thousands of years ago when food was scarce, I see that as another small piece of evidence that God 'speaks' to man and has for a long time since fasting is an ancient practice. It's just a simple deduction and could very well be erroneous. I don't think, though, that you and I should try and discuss anything related to faith or spirituality. We've long known how each other feels plus it makes you angry. Tossing jibes such as "mice gods" can't possibly advance the conversation, wouldn't be allowed in a formal debate, so we have nowhere to go on the topic. I posted to you only as a response to your post to me, didn't want to leave you hanging. But I thought we had agreed long ago not to post to each other-- because you asked me not to post to you. Remember? However, you post some wonderful articles on science and nature that I often jump to first to read. We can post each other on that kind of stuff and leave religion related stuff alone, if you like?
