Earlier today I was truly struck by what you said about being born to atheist parents. I understood how deep the gulf between us on this topic would almost have to be because, as you said, we all self-reinforce our views. I was born into a family very comfortable with Mormonism so I was immersed in the 'language' of it so to speak from birth. It took me until the age of 31 or so to actually nail down God as a real entity. I had skepticism, doubts, etc. and didn't want to delude myself and buy into something without investigating it thoroughly. But I had what I call a 'baby faith' to build onto.

I'm curious about one thing. Since you think religious believers are idiots, as an atheist do you think the country as a whole would be better off without us? Like if it were banned, as in Russia under communism . Try to think beyond your own self, well-educated and affluent, and picture the country as a whole. And try to avoid the political implication of no religion meaning fewer right-wing voters. Just think in terms of the behavior of all the people across the country were there no churches or other religious instruction.
