>>> It's funny you say that. I said the same thing a few days back.<<<

Sorry about that, I don't really follow this thread closely. I try, but it is a heavily posted thread and there are only so many hours in a day. I've been seriously thinking of establishing a short position in the stock, with a target of 23. Looks like I might have some free capital in my position portfolio as Enamalon got trashed by Bearon's this week end. Who knows though. I like total trash companies usually for my position shorts, and I don't see Ascend that way by any means. So I guess I'm undecided. Now, if we could get it to push 30 again...

>>>Clearly it succeeded in pulling NOVL out of the gutter. <<<

Out of the gutter? I had owned NOVL for over 9 months previous to the most recent IBM rumor. NOVL is still well in the gutter, and has been there for 3 years.

Also, there was the camp who speculated on the IBM rumor, but there were just as many who thought IBM was going to take over Informix at the same time -- the Street didn't know which it was going to be.

Then there were the investors like me, who recall that the very same rumor surfaced in 12/96 and 2/97 with the very same results: nothing. The third time the rumor surfaced this Summer, I knew it was the same crap, deja vu...so this time I took advantage of it and traded it along with all the other traders and regained my losses from dumping my long position.

A lot of investors got left holding the bag on that loser stock all over again, having bought in on the IBM takeover bull$#!t up to $11. There's no way in hell NOVL is out of the gutter. Schmidt has yet to show the Street he's got what it takes to grow earnings again.

I also see little resemblance to the LU/ASND rumors, other than the apparent lack of any truth to it, either. It seems Wall Street expects LU to be the white knight for every troubled company out there!
