as i said i consider myself spiritual but not religious, so i don't see "a god" that makes decisions in the sense you do... and i don't worship a god, but i do have an open mind and prefer to think we are more than flesh and bones and i like to think all life is connected, not just eating breathing mammals but even plants, insects, etc

lots of bad stuff happen to good people... the world is not perfect, things happen at random... there is not a god orchestrating the stage... the nature of all life forms is to survive and perpetuate... the fact that something like the Holocaust was perpetuated by humans on their fellow human beings should indicate we are just slightly more advanced than the rest of the creatures in the world, we have advanced to be better at killing each other... or does it say we can actually be even more cruel when given power... there are no easy answers... i dunno, if there is a heaven just send me to the one where the dogs go
