GaAs chips are used in the very high frequency parts of the radio. these would be used for things like the power amp, or the low noise amplifier on the incoming signal or a very high speed ocsillator.

GaAs is better than silicon because of the speed of it. It goes to higher frequencies.

Not sure who supplies GaAs to Qualcomm. Has been alot of companies, quite a few of them never did figure out how to make this stuff. A few do very well.
