Hi Sun Tzu; Re: "You are grasping at straws and you know it."; No, you're the one who came up with an inoperative definition of "invasion". Maybe you can try again. Of course you can call anything an invasion if you want, the difference between that and a "liberation" is subtle. If you want to debate the meaning of words you can do it with someone else. My point is that our troops were not unwelcome in Afghanistan and this is why it was so bloodless for us. Of course I grew up during Vietnam when casualty counts larger than that of Afghanistan were considered normal.

Re: "So Bush was too dumb to do it and Obama did it instead. Why aren't you giving him credit for what Bush should have done and did not?"; This is a good point. However, Bush already declared victory, on an aircraft carrier, if I recall, and Obama's removal of all forces was driven by the Iraqis not Obama. At least that's what Obama claims.

Re: "BTW, outside of the stock market less than 10% of my assets are USD denominated. This has been the case for quite some time (an I said so in SI). You can do very well just by not paying the huge US asset tax in the form of devaluation. In a sign of times, now China is outsourcing to US...LOL!":

I've got some money I need to invest in a few months. I have the same worry about USD denominated stuff. I bought gold back when it was cheap but it just doesn't seem like they're giving it away anymore. My instinct is that now is a good time to hold cash. Real inflation hasn't shown up yet but it seems inevitable that we will see either that or deflation. Certainly interest rates are ridiculously low and anything that drops when interest rates go up is a really bad idea right now.

I see a lot of boomers who are relying on stock market investments to retire. Will they panic when interest rates finally start rising? I think they eventually will and that they will drive stocks low enough that they'll be a bargain again. So cash for now.
