When Ethernet is used for video without other applications, its quality is allright(timing jitters are filtered out by buffering certain amount of packages). But if Ethernet is used for video and other applications like FTP at the same time, the quality is terrible. That is why ATM is better which supports Quality of Services(QoS), that is, video uses constant bit rate(CBR) or real-time variable bit rate(rt-VBR) to have quarantted quality of services while FTP uses unspecified bit rate(UBR) to have cheap service without quarantted quality.

Regards,

If GE will fade, why has'nt ethernet faded??? I believe that you are attempting to compare apples to oranges here by comparing the two. As I posted earlier, ATM is a WAN technology that is implemented from the RBOC's CO all the way to the customer premise equipment. GE is a DATA ONLY technology that is not made to carry voice or video, just straight data. If ATM is so great.....why has it died to the desk top??? If ATM is king of the backbone....why is YURI not making product??? Because....ATM is a WAN technology, it's growth will be the WAN. Ethernet is king of the LAN.
