The way of the universe: IMNSHO.

I think that evolution is the primary function of everything in all the universes that exist, until things gain consciousness. Then things change.

I think our physical universe, the way it exists, is the result of evolution.

I think the universe evolves from energy, to matter, to biology to sentient beings. And I think it goes on all the time everywhere in the universe.

So our manifest destiny is to evolve, win or lose. We either make it to the next step (the human singularity) , or we don't, but we have no choice in the matter.

Once we reach the level of the human singularity, we do quit eating beings of higher consciousness. We are starting to do that now. My younger kid eats nothing more conscious than an egg (and they are pretty unconscious).

Once we reach the human singularity then the next step is developing sentient beings with "god powers".

As that goes on all the time throughout the universe, I believe consciousness is not only pervasive, but actually a third system in the universe after physical and biological systems.

I hope we all live long enough for us to identify consciousness in the universe. That will be like learning about evolution and modern physics.
