There's a lot of rote memorization in their system. I'm not sure you're actually looking at what you think you're looking at. It's not, imo, their educational system- it's their fixation on science careers, their societal respect for education, and the desire of most families to see their children educated- as well as, quite possibly, a more homogenous genetic population- of fairly high IQ's. I'd love to compare their IQ distribution with the IQ distribution in the US.

They don't have people in Japan huffing and puffing about how horrible scientists are, or blathering about the "myth" of evolution. There's no suspicion of the "liberal elite" who run colleges- because most Japanese really want to go to college. We, on the other hand, have a substantial population of complete morons who appear to be terrified of becoming educated, and even more alarmingly, have college educated frauds, who send their children to college, who parrot this kind of crap- fear mongering and running down the very education they and their children benefit from.

<<<<< There educational system is head and shoulders above ours. >>>>

Yup but every time I even touch this subject there are people here that are so defensive of our education system that they think I've drank from the poison well. Our University's are better. But OUR kids aren't prepared compared to the rest of the world. So they send their kids here, we educate them, and they return.

My son just picked up a second masters degree from a major US school in IT and it was comical to see his name among the foreign names. Most of the graduates were from India. An eye opener for me.
