I agree. In fact across the board our Universities are pretty darn good. I thought I had made that clear. Where we fall down is on K-12. So our kids out of high school must compete with the rest of the world for our college slots. One whole hell of a lot of those slots get filled by foreigners, many who then go back to their homeland. I'm sure not so arrogant to think I know how our public K-12 schools are doing - but in comparison testing we don't look good. I'm absolutely positive that many of our K-12 schools are doing great - BUT, many aren't. When that is the case the averages get dragged down. >>

The public schools are fine where the parents are involved as epicure points out.

But where the parents are not involved, usually because they are not educated, then extra help is needed and that requires money. And school funding has been slashed.

LIke I keep harping on. Let us begin by offering free pre school for every kid in the country. That one thing alone would do wonders for our educational system and society.
