Okay, I'm talking to myself here.

I wrote:

The following Sunday, as he prepared to deliver his sermon, the minister asked for a show of hands. He wanted to know how many had read Mark 17. Every hand went up. The minister smiled and said, "Mark has only 16 chapters. I will now proceed with my sermon on the sin of lying."
You do realize there were two parties lying here -

The congregation for saying that they read Mark 17 AND

The minister, for previously saying that there are 17 chapters in Mark!

Which is the bigger lie?

The ones who said they did the impossible act

or the one who deceived a group of trusting people saying such an act is possible?

Yes, for a purpose - but "divine deception" is still deception.
Hope he looks in the mirror without his nose getting in the way.
