Couldn't agree with you more. Thomas Jefferson once said something along the lines that if the people were looking for a country where they can live in ignorance and still maintain civilization and freedom, then they are looking for something that never has been and never will be. Education is the key to everything...that a solid set of unshakeable morals. We used to understand that and live it in this country. In my state the Republicans are gutting our educational system. Over 500 teachers have left our state in the last year due to educational budget cuts. It's unbelievable that investing in the education of our kids is not the highest priority for both parties. I just don't get why that is even a debate. It's so fundamental.
