Rocky, the release, dated October 1997 (no day date) says...

Sony and Fujifilm plan to introduce this system in spring 1998. The two companies have already received support for the basic specifications of the system from Alps Electric Co., Ltd. and TEAC Corporation. In the future, Sony and Fujifilm will propose the
specifications of the system to a wide range of PC and drive manufacturers.

Since Sony and Fujifilm as of October had not yet proposed
specifications to PC and drive manufacturers, I don't believe
they will ship to the public in Spring. Evaluation copies to
OEMs, perhaps.

I would be interested in other opinions about lead times.

Rocky -

Spring is a release date?

There's nothing firm here at all. Here's a quote from the press release you referred to (emphasis mine):

"Sony and Fujifilm plan to introduce this system in spring 1998. The two companies have already received support for the basic specifications of the system from Alps Electric Co., Ltd. and TEAC Corporation. In the future, Sony and Fujifilm will propose the specifications of the system to a wide range of PC and drive manufacturers."

Still sounds a bit vague to me.
