I think you're missing the importance of the Pad as a personal computer for the other members of the household. Having a computer for the family is one thing, but each individual brings their own needs, and managing all that becomes a burden that few want to address. When the teens have their own pad, that issue becomes less pronounced, although there is always a necessity for computer management. The iPad is somewhat split between being an independent PC device and an adjutant to a desktop computer. It can be purposed either way. In the first case, it cries out for more internal storage than 64GB and a way to connect to other storage devices.
