I think NRID is trying to do the right thing here; this is where a lot of profits lie. There are a few issues, though:

(1) The technology has to be elegant and unsurpassable, perhaps patent protected (if not, forget it), especially since

(2) NRID has no marketplace power (i.e., virtually no sales), and IDX will have reason not to cooperate with a competitor; and,

(3) It will probably face some real competition. If this is a critical application, IDX or someone else will compete here.

Finally, recall Microsoft and the Beta v. VHS histories. Even if this is the perfect incarnation of the Holy Grail, can NRID pull it off without a strong enough financial or market base? Or (4) does this give IDX a reason to take over NRID and semi-bail out its stockholders?
