I love my Kindle Fire. Lighter and smaller than a tablet - easily fits in one's purse. You can email, surf the web, stuff like that. I take it instead of a laptop on most vacations. Wifi everywhere so that is rarely a problem when you want to download. Subscribe to Book Gorilla, Bookbub and others, for your personal favorite genres, and get emailed free or extremely cheap books daily. I haven't yet subscribed to Amazon's 9.95 service because I already have Prime on Roku and too many books already on my Kindle I have yet to read.

My wife likes her Kindle Paperwhite a lot. We still use laptops to browse the web, prefer the larger screens, but
she does most of her reading on the Kindle.
I suggest you go to a place that carries a range of models and compare them in person, see which suits you best.

buy a reader.

My reader sits on my desk and I read everything with my desktop Kindle software while sitting here in front of it. So ask yourself WHERE are you going to read. I use my Kindle reader when I am out eating somewhere. Which is seldom.

I find the IPad you guys got me too clunky to carry around and read from. So of the choices, I think the Kindle is the answer. If you want to get books from your Library, the Kindle won't work and you need to buy the Kindle Fire for $139. Then you download the Overdrive media console from the Library into it and read the library books that way. Otherwise, buy the Kindle Paperwhite from Amazon for $119. If you buy the Fire and find it's too big for you send it back for the Kindle.

Another factor about Library reading.

My Library is a combination of all the State Branches, so it is very complete. But it is also very late with new books, which is mainly what I read. If you are concerned about Library reading, I suggest you download their software and see if the choices suit you.

I have ended up getting nothing from the library even for my PC.

Another thing I like about the Kindle is the sampling. I downloaded a sample of the new "Clancy" written under his name and liked it enough to go ahead and buy it. Some samples leave me cold and I don't buy because I have read them.
