Long live analog.

Once deemed hopelessly slow by Web surfers, analog modems should be getting
another speed boost. Diamond Multimedia Inc. and others have technology that
could double modem speeds.

Two recent studies highlight the necessity of upgrading cable-TV networks.

light-wave.com

The report states that cable-TV networks are already operating at capacity in most cases just for the transmission of analog TV; thus, to add new services such as two-way communications for Internet provision will require service providers to upgrade their networks to hybrid fiber/coax.

Glenn

ADSL is presently limited to 10,000 feet from the central office switch. I live in Ann Arbor, MI a relatively small town and I am too far from the switch for Ameritech to hook me up. The RBOC's are going to have to reconfigure much of their networks before everyone will be able to hook up.
