Interesting article about Apple in Friday's WSJ and their use of sapphire in the new phones due out later this year.

The article stated that there are about 100 companies (mostly in China) that are producing some sapphire.

As GT Advanced technology ramps up production as it is now....it will produce more sapphire than the the other 99 companies combined.

Sapphire is used in some expensive watches like Rolex.

Sapphire is used in airplane windows

Sapphire adds between $15.00 to $18.00 to the cost of the new I Pad

GTAT has a patented sapphire furnace that yields excellent end result (very few impurities). And GTAT has orders for $600 million dollars of furnaces from other companies. (on backorder)

On the same page is an article about AMAT and their outlook at the present time.

note ...I'm long GTAT...and I'm likely to add more this week.

GTAT is a heavily shorted stock...and this will impact the upward price movement.

I have noticed that as the new Apple I-Phone and the I-Pad approach launch....GTAT is rising in price.

This past Friday I added some HPQ to my portfolio as they report on Wednesday. Also added RIG (TransOcean) in order to catch the $75.00 dividend on Tuesday. (RIG...38.18)...HPQ...(35.07).
