Imperialism was given up last century, most colonies or "protectorates" of the European countries gained independence, as it was economically more viable than keeping them under a country control by remote control.

To me it seems that the present Russian Federation has not given up to the idea of imperialism which they started in earnest around the time of Ivan Grozny of the Rurik Dynasty, with Poland Sweden Lithuania Tatars Turks being always their "mortal" enemy.

A lot of present Russia heritage has its origin at around this time when what we call Russia suffered a famine that killed one-third of the population, about two million and signaled the end of the Rurik Dynasty and suffered invaders and occupation by the the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth or from civil uprisings, usurpers and impostors. The Russian landlords or Boyars were more than willing to sell their country for the right price to the Poles after suffering under Ivan Grozny Oprichnina or internal security service a.k.a. NKVD, KGB, FSB of modern times en.wikipedia.org a staple of Russian order since.

Those times where also times of the search of a new national identity that arose during the "Times of Trouble" which Putin resurrected as a national remembering day and official holiday, and there in this mindset, lies the great danger to world peace, and therefore the Baltic States and Poland and other bordering state are scared to be overrun and pulverized. en.wikipedia.org

Romanians have also bitter memories from the Soviet rulers, therefore I am so vocal about what is going on in Ukraine.

As a child I remember vividly fear inspired by the Red Army when driving trough my town Lugoj (even that the soldiers where friendly to kids like me) and into Hungary with armored vehicles including troop carriers and tanks day and night for many days, news came back of relatives of ethnic Hungarian being summarily shot or arrested and tortured information passed in whispers. At the time I did not understand why my parents where so frighten.

<P.S. I'd rather not speculate about hypothetical nuclear war> Speculating about it is probably a good idea when people are setting off on the road to such war as they have now done in Ukraine with F-bomb Nuland as a ringleader. I recall a Q-bomb in The Mouse That Roared. urbandictionary.com
<The Q-bomb was a Superbomb that turned out to be a dud. It's from the film, The Mouse That Roared (1959) starring Peter Sellers. The film is about a poor country that goes to war against the U.S. hoping to loose and collect money to rebuild. Unfortunately by a fluke, they win.TJ's speculations seem about right. >

Putin will already have sufficient tuned up ready to go and provide excellent visual effects to help opponents see the light regarding their continued militaristic MAD mania. Dr Strangelove rides again.

The USA in Hiroshima and Nagasaki gave just an entre to what later became possible. Those two were kiloton bombs. There are now many megaton bombs available. Hopefully even those littlies give enough of the right people pause for thought.

The murderous megalomaniacs in Kiev, pushed by worse in Washington, have started WWIII. Einstein said something about WWIV weapons being sticks and stones. It will be interesting to see whether the MAD Americans really want to go for broke.

Meanwhile Siberia will be going the way of China. Zbigniew is going to lose in the big picture. He obviously thinks he can take Russia and worry about China later. That might not be a good plan. Stalin is long dead. Zbigniew can't rewind the clock.

however do keep an eye out for ( zerohedge.com )

Fukushima Increased Cesium Levels 100 to 1,000 Times Worldwide ... and 1,000,000 to 10,000,000 Times On the U.S. West Coast

while i am not exactly pleased w/ the neat and tidy (per cb ilaine) japanese,
in the mean time am happy to be back in communist hong kong from socialist france, both great places as and whenever compared to a lot of other places. whereas france is more of a real real big garden, hong kong exists in a small beautiful bubble.
both places go well w/ cool drinks while just staring ... yesterday on neighbour's deck ... what i saw was picture-perfect
