greg; I feel it was a pre-emptive action to deny AMD profits, and long term survival. Some may wish to describe it otherwise to hopefully duck the attentions of the DOJ for predatory actions.
However if AMD was not there Intels actions would not have cut the price nearly as sharply as they did. They had to deny AMD profits to slow the ramp up to volume by internal $$ profits. SInce AMD finds it hard to borrow, this effectively bludgeons it, and the ramp up is so slow it cannot catch up.
