A lot of the articles are science- they deal with physiological measurements- brain differences, physiological response differences. I'm not nearly as interested in the non-biological studies.

I guess I tend to agree with you on this issue of 'inherent' or even 'biological' differences between conservatives and liberals. Many of the studies I've looked at fail somewhat on the common sense level. For example, if some folks are hard-wired to become conservative, then are they also hard-wired to become white males and live in the South? I don't think so as that would be quite a strange genetic package.

Also, consider the conclusion drawn from some the 'science' that conservatives tend to be fearful. If that were true, then wouldn't they want MORE social safety nets and unionized workplaces instead of less. If conservatives are so fearful, then how is it they are disproportionately owners of small businesses when most agree that starting a small business is risky.

The safest jobs are government jobs which are held disporportionately by democrats. Working for yourself or for a corporation has much less job security and almost zero pension guarantee yet this is the route more conservatives follow.

Likewise for employment in the military and police.....not careers for the cautious yet do seem to appeal to conservatives.

In reading many of the studies cited as 'science', it seemed to me that what happened was that some kind of differentiation (such as the amygdala) was spotted, and then the authors just ad hoc superimposed some kind of behavioral significance from it.
